Everyone loves wild rags! But not all silk scarves are created equal! Take our silk scarf wild rag test and see if yours pass the test.
The Wild Rag Test
- Pull out your silk scarves and look at any that have a pattern or printed design, separate them from your solid colored silk scarves.
- Look at the top side of the silk scarf wild rag. It usually has a pattern or design. It can be have a rich sheen to it and often lots of wonderful color.
- Now, turn the silk over on to it's backside. An easy way to test this is to fold over half of the wild rag and compare.
- Take the Wild Rags Test - Do your silk scarves have the same exact color? Granted the back might be more of a matte color but just as colorful as the top. Check your scarves and see how they compare.
See below is the same exact scarf. These are both the backsides of a turquoise silk wild rag with silver conchos. On the left, one notices how lacking in color the silk is - thus creating that pesky pale backside.
The rich turquoise color on the right side is vibrant and packs a punch! Which one would you prefer to wear? The dull, colorless model on the left...or the magnificent color on the right?
Once again, not all silk scarves are created equal. Some are really lacking (in color.)
Choosing Premium Wild Rags
Why are most wild rag companies taking a shortcut while producing their silk scarves for men and women?
Easy answer: They make significantly more profit by only using one sided print. They know they could produce a double sided - full color print, only they choose profits over improved product.
Here's a list of things to look for when looking for an exceptional wild rag silk scarf:
- Silk Weight - Anything under 12mm is going to be almost see-through and too thin that it might not last. Look for at least 12mm weight.
- Full Color - Wild Rags Silk Scarves with a colorless backside almost disappoint in the long run. You don't want wild rag regrets in your purchase.
- A Return Guarantee - Will you be able to return the wild rag if need be? Some wild rag companies give you a short 14 day window for returns and then a high restocking fee on top of that. Be watchful for this.
- Great Edging - No frayed edges or clunky machine edged.
At Cowtown Wild Rags, we believe "how you do anything is how you do everything." Meaning, the little details count. Hand-rolled edges over machine stitched. Double sided - full color print over one-sided print.
We didn't like wearing wild rags with a pale backside either, so we did something about it.
We don't take shortcuts, we wanted wild rag silk scarves that we're proud to represent. Why? Because we wear our own products!
We've changed the wild rag game with the "Home of the Double Sided - Full Color Wild Rag"!
Wild rags have such a rich history in the western world. When you think of cowboy in the saddle, what do you visualize him wearing? A cowboy hat, wild rag and cowboy boots.
This is the cowboy culture. A wild rag silk scarf is so much more than a piece of silk. It represents tradition, honor and the cowboy code. What's the cowboy code? It's a moral guide that has governed the conduct of cowboys (and cowgirls) since the 19th century. Qualities such as honesty, loyalty, courage, hard work ethic and, respect for others. A wild rag is a symbol of all of these qualities. It's not just silk. It's tradition.
Whether it's an old time print, paisley, aztec or more modern, a wild rag is always a great choice to add to any western fashion. Wild rags can be tied in so many different ways. From the buckaroo knot to the traditional scarf tied behind the neck, there's a lot of versatility with a wild rag. They're used as silk belts, halter tops, hair scarves, dog bandanas, wrist ties...there are so many different ways to wear silk!
The best part of silk is that it's strong but not heavy to wear. If you've never had the pleasure of owning a real silk scarf, you're in for a treat. It's like a vacation for your neck. A silk scarf wild rag is so soft, you'll forget you're wearing it.
Maybe I'm partial to silk but it's so soft that "you'll steal it out of your partner's closet." Cotton when wet gets rough and chaffing, plus much heavier in weight. Silk is the opposite. It dries quickly if wet and never chafes your skin. Cotton is a great choice if cost is the biggest factor. Silk does have a higher cost for a reason. I think it's worth it.
