How To Tie a Cowgirl Scarf

With so many people new to Western fashion, people often ask, "How do I tie a cowgirl scarf?" It's easy when you know the steps!

If you don't know me, I'm Tammi :)

The Owner and creator of Cowtown Wild Rags. If you're just now hearing about us - welcome! We're glad you found us.

Cowtown Wild Rags are unique in that we specialize in a double-sided, full-color Western silk scarf. So many "wild rags," as we call them in the West, are typically a one-sided print. Meaning, that the silk top-side is colorful, and the underside of the print is washed out and unprinted because the scarf is unfinished.

Our goal at Cowtown Wild Rags is to create fantastic Western silk scarves that you are proud to wear and teach you how to tie them in new and different ways.

You'll notice that while tying the cowgirl scarf, it wouldn't really matter how you tie this wild rag, it's going to give you full color and not some unprinted backside that you'd have to hide in the way that you tie.

Let's tie a cowgirl scarf together (I'll walk you through the steps - also check out the "How to tie a cowgirl scarf" video).

Step 1:
Fold the silk scarf (I'm using 36" Chisholm Cowpoke) into a triangle. I'm a little shorter on the backside.

Step 2:
Hold the scarf diagonally across your body. Take your left end, going behind your head and bringing it forward, crossing over the right end.

Step 3:
Take the right end and fold it over the left end that you had previously crossed. Take the right end behind your head and bring it forward.

Step 4:
Pull those two ends down by the pointed ends of the silk corners so that they are evenly matched in length.

Step 5:
Tie a square knot, the left end over the right end, and the right end over the left. Adjust your cowgirl scarf. It can be worn in the middle or off to the side.

Congrats on tying a cowgirl scarf! You can do this wild rag tie with any silk scarf or cotton cowboy bandana.
