How to Care for Your Silk Wild Rags

How to Care for Your Wild Rags

Silk wild rags are an investment - You spent good money on a silk scarf and want to take care of it. So, the question becomes, "Should I dry clean or hand-wash?" You want your silk scarf to have longevity along with lasting color.

At Cowtown Wild Rags, our silk scarves can be hand-washed (as well as dry cleaned). It's your choice. If you do choose to hand-wash your wild rags, there are some suggested steps.

How to Care for Your Wild Rags

  • Fill a basin (sink) with cold water and add a pea-sized amount of gentle detergent to the water. Don't pour the detergent directly onto the silk. After the detergent is dissolved into the cold water, put your silk scarf into the water and let it sit.

  • After 5-10 minutes, you can remove the silk scarf, wrapping it into a soft towel. Roll the towel up and gently press the water out of the wild rag.

  • Iron on a safe setting (iron setting), or you can steam your scarf.

  • Hang your scarf to dry - don't hang it out in the sun, that will fade the rich colors of the scarf through time.

Enjoy wearing your silk wild rags - silk is a wonderful natural fabric that will last you a lifetime if you take care of it. With Cowtown Wild Rags, we create our silk scarves with the idea that they are made so that parents can pass them down to their kids.
